APPLIED THESIS COURSE: FINAL COURSE
PROJECT
After
completion of the required core courses for the Diploma
program, students choose the topic of their final
course. This gives students the opportunity to focus in
an area of professional interest. There are now two options
to meet this requirement.
Options:
1) Students may enroll in an elective course related to
an area of personal or professional interest.
Choose from the following list of electives:
Career Planning and Development
Life Skills Coaching
Multi-Cultural Competence
Spiritual/Faith-Based Counselling
Ethics and Career Development
Advanced Skill Development/Final Project:
Administrative Assistant
Counselling Assistant
Course Facilitation Assistant
Case Management in Applied Skills IV - Practicum
Probation, Parole & Rehabilitation
Cinematherapy
Community-Based Counselling parts 1&2
Solution-focused Counselling
2) Students may enroll in the Applied Thesis Course: Under
the supervision of an instructor or mentor,
students develop a career-related proposal that incorporate
concepts and skills learned throughout the program. This
project serves as a measure of the student's ability to
apply theory, research, and clinical skills. Proposals
are evaluated by the instructor for practical relevance
and professionalism.
Get creative in an area of personal or professional interest.
The scope and type of project is up to each student
develop a workshop, intervention or outreach program,
fundraising project, etc. Here are just a few areas to
choose from:
-Addictions
prevention or recovery support,
-Depression or anxiety disorders
-Intervention planning for victims of abuse or trauma
-Marital enrichment or conflict resolution training,
-Parenting
-Suicide prevention
-Developmental issues for youth, adults, or the elderly
-Loss and grief
-Cultural diversity
The thesis proposal is a valuable addition to graduates'
portfolio of clinical skills, as it reflects current employment
trends in the mental health field. |
