Youth and Family Counselling
Program Description:
The Certificate of Applied Counselling Studies with a specialization in Youth and Family Counselling focuses on using a child-centered, family therapy model when working with children, adolescents and parents. This counselling approach explores the impact of the parenting style, and dynamics between family members on developmental, emotional and behavioral problems. Students learn interview procedures to identify issues appropriate for their scope of practice. Theory and skills include: assessment of developmental stages; trust building techniques, treatment planning and goal setting, behavioral interventions, parenting strategies; play therapy and art therapy techniques.
